What makes you a Risky Woman?

Emily has migrated across the globe with major international banks transforming their compliance practices in the face of regulatory pressure and change. She is a champion of DEI, not only manages risk, but takes risk and thrives, with her career and current path as a founder being an inspiration.

Name your top 3 achievements

  1. Emily has written and published a book on compliance surveillance, ‘Behind the Screens; Understanding Employee Surveillance in financial Services’ which is available on Amazon. The reviews of this are resoundingly positive. As a women in a technical risk role, it’s great to see this kind of high profile achievement and role modelling.
  2. I’ve been impressed to watch Emily expand her sphere of influence and impact well beyond the bounds of any one employer as she has set put to impact the industry on a much broader scale than as a risk employee in a single institution.
  3. Finally, Emily has built a business in a new country, learning to navigate the new skills needed for entrepreneurship, also stepping into coaching as a new professional practice and doing all this in a new location and building the necessary networks for this to succeed. Having come from Australia and knowing what a small and well networked market this is, to arrive to work there for the first time and build this from scratch is something I know is tough and requires real tenacity.

What is the biggest risk you’ve taken in your career?

Watching Emily leave her prestigious global banking career to relocate to Australia and build a business from nothing was bold. With no established network or guaranteed clients, she transformed herself from employee to entrepreneur, author, and coach—demonstrating the courage to completely reinvent her professional identity.

What’s something most people don’t know about you?

Given her vivacious personality, I highly doubt that most people would even know that she has such a technical calling! They might just see her as a generalist Senior Corporate Leader.

What is the best quality for successful leaders in Risk?

I believe that great risk management is based on thought leadership, the ability to solve and present real solutions, and I see Emily doing this across a broad range of topics now in her career. Emily is working with technology teams to influence the design and functionality of the risk tools used in her areas of expertise, she is working across a range of large and small companies to risk-remediate and share best practices in risk management. She is also working at the individual level, coaching risk leaders to support them to deliver change in their organisations. It will be interesting to see if Emily’s next project, a unique misconduct remediation program, drives change through all of these spheres too.
