This recent survey in Hong Kong, by Kirti Lad at Meraki Executive Search and The University of Hong Kong, shows that significant action is needed to address the gender imbalance and the cost to business in Hong Kong.
There are many alarming views revealed in Hong Kong Female Talent Pipeline Study:
- Less than half of Hong Kong leaders see diversity as a business priority
- Large corporates are experiencing female brain drain
- There is systemic bias in Hong Kong – losing women from the talent pipeline is seen as acceptable
- 9 out of every 10 Hong Kong women report barriers to reaching their career aspirations
- The construct of work is ripe for disruption – how, when and where employees work requires a complete overhaul
About the Hong Kong Female Talent Pipeline Study
Many gender diversity studies are led out of the West and as we face a unique set of challenges in Asia when managing our female talent pipeline, it was imperative to create an annual study that tracks Hong Kong’s progress (from entry level to the board). The study encompasses three elements – a company tracker, a ‘women in HK’ survey and a series of qualitative interviews with Hong Kong business leaders – and represents more than 200,000 Hong Kong employees (approx. 5% of the total workforce).
